Local Teens Win Junior Achievement Scholarships

WAUSAU, WISCONSIN - Four students from Pacelli Catholic High School in Stevens Point, Wisconsin recently won scholarships at the JA Titan Business Challenge.  Ethan Cowart and Logan Mayer took first place, and each won a $1,000 scholarship to UW Stevens Point. Second place winners, Laine Ilkka and Claire Sobczak, each received a $500 scholarship to Mid-State Technical College (MSTC).  Sam Carpenter and Dakota Wrezinski won third place and $250 scholarships to MSTC.

All first and second place winners advance to the JA Titan State Competition on Thursday, May 4, 2023, at Acuity Insurance in Sheboygan, Wisconsin, where they will compete against winners of other Wisconsin regional tournaments for more scholarship money and the chance to compete at the national level.

The JA Titan Business Challenge allows student teams to run a business simulation.  The competition teaches students about the decisions needed to operate a successful company and provides the opportunity to practice skills like critical thinking, strategic development, and teamwork. Success depends on decisions the students make about production levels, marketing, product pricing, research & development, and capital improvements.

The title sponsor of the JA Titan Business Challenge for the Portage and Wood Counties Area was Sentry Insurance.
