Todd and Shari Nelson Inducted to Wisconsin Business Hall of Fame

MILWAUKEE, WISCONSIN – Junior Achievement of Wisconsin held its 33rd annual Wisconsin Business Hall of Fame™ on Thursday, June 1, 2023, at the Pfister Hotel in Milwaukee, Wisconsin.

Todd and Shari Nelson were among the class of 2023 laureates inducted to the Business Hall of Fame.

Lifelong entrepreneurs Todd and Shari Nelson have run a saloon, a pizza restaurant, and Kalahari Resorts and Conventions, one of the most successful resort and convention centers in the country.  From its start in the Wisconsin Dells, Kalahari expanded to additional locations in Pennsylvania’s Pocono Mountains, and in Sandusky, Ohio.  In 2020, Kalahari Resorts and Conventions celebrated the brand’s 20th anniversary and opened its fourth property in Round Rock, Texas.

Kalahari actively works to benefit the community, including many annual fundraising events, like the United Way Duck Derby; Golf for a Song, an annual charity golf tournament to raise funds for Wisconsin Dells High School’s marching band; and the annual Andy North Classic at Trappers Turn Golf Club for the University of Wisconsin Paul P. Carbone Comprehensive Cancer Center.

Kalahari also supports a variety of international organizations, including charity: water and the Nelson Mandela Children’s Hospital.

The Nelsons have been tremendously successful in business over the years, but perhaps, as evidenced by the community values and leadership passed on to their children, they’ve been even more successful in raising a family.  They are the proud parents and grandparents of five children and 13 grandchildren.

Established in 1990, the Wisconsin Business Hall of Fame honors individuals whose business innovations, effective management, and civic involvement have made a difference in their companies and communities throughout the state. The laureates are also recognized for the high standards they set as role models for Wisconsin’s young people and as innovative business leaders who have positively shaped Wisconsin’s business climate.
